OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee held the overnight levels in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 138.80 and Rs 139.30 respectively, while it gained 30 paisas against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 157.50 and Rs 159.00 respectively, they said.
In the final US trade, the dollar held firm against its rivals on Friday, set for its first weekly gain since mid-December on optimism about talks to end the trade war between China and the United States.
Media reports on Thursday and Friday suggested both countries were considering concessions ahead of a Washington visit from Chinese Vice Premier Liu He on Jan. 30 and 31 for talks aimed at resolving the trade standoff between the world's two largest economies.
China has offered to go on a six-year buying spree to ramp up imports from the United States in order to reconfigure the relation between the two countries, Bloomberg reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin discussed lifting some or all tariffs on Chinese goods and suggested offering a tariff rollback during the trade discussions scheduled for Jan. 30, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the internal deliberations.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee depreciated its worth on buying side while it stayed unchanged on selling side in relation to the greenback in the local currency market on Saturday.
According to currency dealers, the greenback gained 20 paisas and ended for buying at Rs 138.80 against the overnight closing rate of Rs 138.60 while it did not observe any change for selling at Rs 139.80.
However, the local currency showed strength as it recovered its earlier losses versus the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates declined from Friday's closing of Rs 179.00 and Rs 180.30 to Rs 178.80 and Rs 179.40 respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar gained 10 paisa against the rupee in the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi Saturday.
The dollar opened at Rs 139.10 (buying) and Rs 139.20 (selling) against last rate of Rs 139 (buying) and Rs 139.10 (selling). It closed at Rs 139.10 (buying) and Rs 139.20 (selling).
The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold stood at Rs 67,800 (selling) and Rs 67,5000 (buying) in the Sarrafa (gold) markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
